Same here. Suddenly iTunes today no longer recognizes my iPhone8. When I plug it in, iTunes starts, but does not see the iPhone. The iPhone is correctly connected - it appears connected in the USB device tree. I am also able to start Image Capture, which does see the iPhone. I don't have McAfee or Norton or any of those Just to see, I rebooted both my Mac and my iPhone. Then I reconnected the iPhone. Update iTunes? Update the iPhone? I suspect this not recognizing the iPhone must have been going on for a while, presumably after an iOS upgrade.

I just assumed my phone was being backed up and synced - I never noticed that it actually did not recognize the iPhone I also never had the message asking to update iTunes. I just got it now, presumably because I had rebooted my mac The update that you referred to is the update described in the instructions from tt2. I had to install that minor update myself in order for iTunes to see my iOS 12 devices on my Mac.

This solution worked for me! Thanks for posting.
