Mark Ayres - Eyes Watching mp3. Add to cart! Disco Reggae Volume 4 LP. Review: There's nothing particularly revolutionary about the idea behind the Disco Reggae compilation series - contemporary artists deliver reggae-soaked covers of boogie and disco classics - but the sets themselves never fail to impress.

The latest volume, the fourth in total, once again contains some genuinely brilliant covers. In between, you'll find highlights including a reggae-boogie revision of Chemise's 'She Can't Love You' again by Taggy Matcher , a wonderfully soulful re-interpretation of Errol Walker classic 'In These Times' here re-titled 'Summertime' by Wolfgang, and a killer collaboration between Blundetto and Booker Gee.

Names You Can Trust. I'll Be On My Way 7". Deptford Northern Soul Club. Review: French jazz-fusion act Cortex's debut album Troupeau Bleu has long been in demand amongst record collectors and dusty-fingered DJs, not least because it's14 tracks contain all manner of killer drum breaks, fast-fingered electric piano solos, surprise s synth sounds and nods aplenty to French lounge music.

As this essential Trad Vibe issue proves, the album is every bit as good as you'd expect, with floor-friendly jazz-funk freak-outs sitting side by side with samba workouts, laidback jams of the kind associated with Bob James, piano jazz interludes, jazz-rock slam-downs and much more besides. Basically, it's the kind of freewheeling but impeccably produced set that deserves a place in any jazz-funk fan's record collection.

Gabriele POSO. Tamburo Infinito LP. Wonderwheel US. Burning Spear 7". The Originals label pulls another classic from their vast discography here in the form of 'Burning Spear.

DJ Matman is the studio wizard charged with serving up the edit and flips the original sample with some style. It comes from 'Burning Spear' By S.

Top Dawg Ent. Sparkle marbled vinyl 7". Aloha Got Soul US. Review: Expert Hawaiian label Aloha Got Soul has put together a lovely little green 45 here with some serious seductive and steamy sax led sounds from brass-heavy funk band Greenwood. They were everywhere in the 70s, playing all over the island under guidance from bandleader Robin Kimura, and recently got back together for some reunion shows.

Here they serve up their original version of Tatsuro Yamashita's 'Sparkle' as well as a update, and both are glorious bits of heart warming soul.

The older version is dripping with libidinousness thanks to the sax and vocals and for us is the best of the two. Devika Goddess white vinyl 7". Review: Los Angeles' Alex Santos Orchestra previously paid tribute to classic jazz-funk imprint Red Clay Records via a 45 featuring covers of two classic cuts.

On this follow-up, they've turned their attention to another similarly lauded label, Flying Dutchman Records, offering their interpretations of two tracks associated with one of the imprint's most-loved artists, Lonnie Liston Smith. On the A-side they handle 'Devika Goddess ', a David Hubbard composition that they re-frame as an atmospheric, bass guitar-led slab of laidback, head-nodding jazz funk full of warming electric piano, flanged funk guitars and hazy horns.

Arguably even better is their party-starting take on Liston-Smith's most celebrated tune, 'Expansions', whose familiar bassline and infectious groove never fails to get dancefloors moving. Sensational gatefold 2xLP.

Telephone Explosion Canada. I Won't Fade Away 12". Review: Man like Quantic aka Will Holland, a real musicologist, world music maestro and bandleader, revisits one of his old tracks following a slew of other producers doing the same.

That track is 'Pushin On' and here he takes its timeless Alice Russell vocal and drops it into a new beat. It's one that is swung with plenty of UKG references and is finished off with nice soft melodies up top.

Add in a bit of tape hiss and some broken beats and you have an anthem in the making. Flip it over for a paired back instrumental. Either of these will be huge in the club, so do not sleep.

Played by: Juno Records Staff Picks. French Ballads remastered limited gatefold gram vinyl 2xLP. Elemental Music. Love Injection US. Review: Conclave's self-titled debut is also the first album to be put out by Love Injection Records. The album is an in depth look at claves, which are "a unifying rhythm that holds the key to unlock dances both ancestral and contemporary.

Soweto reissue LP. Nyami Nyami France. Galaxy Oasis transparent pink vinyl 7". Eraserhood Sound. Bongo Song 7". Review: You'd be hard pushed to find a 7" that packs more of a punch than this one this month. It has a punk-funk bass line that is super sleazy and gritty.

The scintillating drums bristle with energy and the explosive chords are just as edgy. The bongos ride up top and bring a looseness to the groove that makes it have an ever wider appeal.

It is a languid, dubbed out wobbler with neat, knotted guitar riffs, splashy cymbals and a much sunnier disposition. Finest Hour gatefold 2xLP. SMO Recordings. Review: Submotion Orchestra's seminal debut album Finest Hour finally gets a reissue and a full remastering job a decade on from its first release.

It is the perfect album for troubled times even all these years after the record reached a perfect highpoint between ambient, chill out and orchestral music. The grandiose tracks swell, ebb and flow on lush pianos, sweeping grooves and drawn out synths, with aching vocals hanging in the spaces left behind. Mark Ayres - The Haemovores mp3.
